Coral door mat

Subfloors, levelling and smoothing

Our flooring solutions can be applied to practically all subfloors with stability and a decent structure. Good preparation is essential for trouble-free installation. Before installation the subfloor must be clean, dry and free from any dirt.

The final result of the floor is highly dependent on the subfloor preparation. Any irregularities in the subfloor must be suitably prepared, which might involve levelling, sanding or polishing. It goes without saying that we will first check your subfloor and provide you with professional advice.

Most common sub floor

Sand-cement concrete screed:
This subfloor must be levelled and smoothened and needs approximately 4 weeks to completely dry out and harden. A rule of thumb exists which states that 1 centimetre of thickness means waiting 1 one week, so 4cm means 4 weeks, 5 cm 5 weeks and so on. Take into account that the temperature should be around 15 degrees. The moisture content of the surface may have a maximum of 2.5%.

Anhydrite screed:
This subfloor must be levelled and smoothened and needs approximately 4 weeks to completely dry out and harden. However, the moisture content with this surface may not exceed 0.5%. Anhydrite screeds have gypsum content which is why this screed must be equipped with a so called primer. In addition, the screed must be sanded too.

Tile/stone screed:
Tiles or natural stones that are firmly attached to the subfloor do not always have to be removed. The tiles will need to be pre-treated with an appropriate primer. After this process the surface may need to be levelled (depends on the screed; not necessary with gravel, marble stone or trowel floors).

Wooden substrate:
Our flooring solutions can also be installed on wooden substrates if a correct preparation technique is applied. To ensure a long-lasting application, the wooden floor needs to be flat and bonded properly. Ask for the available instructions to carry this out.
